So it's my last day here. Overall the films in competition have been varied - I think the most talked about ones so far are The Rover from David Michod, with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattison and actually not in competition, Mr Turner from Mike Leigh, Turkish film Winter's Sleep and Two Days, One Night from the double Palme D'Or winners the Dardennes brothers.
Me, I saw a small Argentinian film called The Desert about a post apocalyptic world where 3 survivors are stuck, indefinitely inside a small bunker. Tensions, sexual and otherwise ensue.
Mexican actress Salma Hayek says she was right to demonstrate on the Cannes Film Festival to highlight the plight of the 200 captive Nigerian school children, despite breaking the rules of the red carpet. I've seen a few films recently. A couple of festival films and a couple of complete indies. I keep having to learn that even if a film is in a prestige festival it may not have much commerciality.
Hi there and welcome to my Day 2 Cannes Film Festival blog. Another gorgeous day starts with an omelette at cafe au lair with NZ distributor Vendetta Films. Like most distributors they are actively seeking film content at this festival.
We usually have breakfast a block back from the main strip (the famous Croisette) as you get better more friendly service than the restaurants on the strip. And lower prices.
I've been here just one day and already the cool and crazy has hit me. It's my 7th Cannes and each time I am reminded of the strange mix of glamour, art and commerce that Cannes mixes effortlessly.
Cannes is of course first a world class festival. There's the main Competition with films premiering every night and vying for the Palme D'Or.
