Hi there and welcome to my Day 2 Cannes Film Festival blog.

Another gorgeous day starts with an omelette at cafe au lair with NZ distributor Vendetta Films. Like most distributors they are actively seeking film content at this festival.

We usually have breakfast a block back from the main strip (the famous Croisette) as you get better more friendly service than the restaurants on the strip. And lower prices.

I met with a few producers a few sales agents and saw 2 films. As this is a market many buyers simply watch part of a film before leaving for a meeting or another screening. It can be depressing for a filmmaker but the buyers know pretty quick if it's right for them.

The first film Walter is an Indy American film with William H Macy. It's a quirky comedy about a young guy who's a cinema ticket seller and also the son of god ("not Jesus, that was another son") and who becomes flummoxed when a ghost in purgatory needs to find out if he's going to heaven or hell. Unfortunately it takes a long time to set up and in attempting to make the characters quirky they've only succeeded in making them unlikeable. Left early to check out per stuff.

Also saw a horror film called iLived. It's pretty low budget about a young tech guru getting possessed by an app (a killer app?). The best bit is you download the iLived app and when the film starts you sync it up and then get the same texts, calls, etc on your phone as the lead character. Kind of neat esp when the lights are out in the movie and your iPhone torch comes on!  Corny and silly but the app makes it fun. I think it could work for home Ent and TV.

Word on the street is that Mike Leigh's new film Mr Turner is very good. There was a press screening in the a.m with the proper red carpet premiere in the evening.

Saw Lead actor Timothy Spall at the airport. He was on my flight and I had that moment when I thought I knew him. He was wearing a 3 piece suit and tie. Snappy!
