The Carter

Hailed by the hip hop community as one the greatest rappers of his time, Dwayne Lil Wayne Carter is also one of the most controversial. In his colourful and prolific career he has sold over 6 million records and won 4 Grammy Awards. As a best-selling artist, a workaholic, an addict and a rap icon, he is as polarising as he is potent. In this astonishing expose, cutting edge filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough (Bomb the System) follows the notorious rapper around the world in the lead up to the release of his platinum album Tha Carter III. The result is an intimate and revealing look at a supremely talented, complex and troubled character. The Carter is a raw, vérité-style film capturing his everyday: the touring, the endless recording, the media attention and the drug use, including his notorious habitual consumption of prescription cough syrup. Featured are interviews with his closest entourage, including Birdman and his manager and life-long friend, Cortez Bryant, as well as with his daughter Reginae Carter.
