TEMUERA TALKS 'TRACKER'

Coming up this Saturday night (14th April, 8.30pm) on Rialto Channel is the New Zealand television premiere of the period action thriller Tracker, staring Ray Winstone and our very own Kiwi icon, Temuera Morrison. Directed by Ian Sharp, and based in the early 20th century the film captures the beauty of New Zealand as South African tracker Arjan van Diemen (Winstone) chases wanted Maori fugitive Kereama (Morrison) through the NZ wilderness. Needless to say, it was a physical shoot.

Along with appearances in The Green Lantern, and Spartacus, Tracker marks a busy new period in Morrison’s esteemed career. He’s currently shooting a new feature film called Mt Zion in South Auckland with Australian Idol winner Stan Walker.

Temuera kindly took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to have a chat.

I always enjoy watching Scottish actor James McAvoy. He can move from indie flick to period drama, and action and science fiction blockbuster to kid’s animation, all with ease and while oozing credibility. A little like his X-Men: First Class co-star Michael Fassbender.

The Rialto Channel’s Oscar’s Collection comes to an end this week, and what a collection it’s been – thought-provoking, moving, funny, and challenging. This week we finish on a high, featuring 3 of the big winners from last year’s Academy Awards; The King’s Speech (Saturday 31st March, 8.30pm), In a Better World (Tuesday 27th March, 8.30pm) and Inside Job (Thursday 29th March, 8.30pm).

THE BEAUTY OF RUBBISH - WASTE LAND

Lucy Walker’s Oscar nominated documentary Waste Land (screens Thursday 22nd March, 8.30pm) describes itself as “an uplifting feature documentary highlighting the transformative power of art and the beauty of the human spirit”. It’s the sort of sentiment often expressed, but in the case of this documentary it is well and truly met.

ANOTHER SUPERB WEEK ON RIALTO CHANNEL

As a mother of two I cry at pretty much anything (I’ve admitted this before I know), and my three highlights on Rialto Channel this week have all left me with mascara issues. I’ve been both very sad and quite enchanted by the characters I’ve met along the way.
