Aeon

Aeon is a non-verbal experimental documentary depicting a day in the life of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, through a zen influenced perspective. The film is cyclical in structure, manipulating time freely through both slow motion and time lapse photography to uncover new perspectives of an already creative, and abnormally windy, city. I created this film while in my final year of a Visual Communication Design Degree at Massey University in Wellington. The film focus's on locations that became familiar over my four years study. This film was shot over four months in 2004 on a Sony handycam, well before HD and also before digital still photography became normal for time lapse. Therefore, over 50 hours of DV footage was recorded on tape, logged onto a bubble iMac, and compressed into the 13 minutes of Aeon. The soundtrack is by Wellington performance group 'Strike'
