'Career Girls' focuses on the reunion of two old university friends, Hannah (Cartlidge) and Annie (Steadman). Annie is heading towards London's Kings Cross where she is about to meet her old university friend Hannah, who she has not seen since graduation. She remembers moving into a run-down student flat with Hannah in the mid-eighties. They both now have moderately successful careers and are, at least on the surface, self-assured in their new lives. But there is still a lot of emotion al baggage hanging on from university. During the course of a weekend they rediscover their close friendship and encounter many faces from the past. Chronicler of the working class, director Mike Leigh follows up his acclaimed 'Secrets and Lies' with this masterly observation of the human condition, deftly moving between past and present with boisterous wit.
