Repulsion

BAFTA Film Award Nominee 1966. This surreal thriller delves into the mind of Carol, a sexually repressed young woman who holds on to her sanity by a very thin thread. Carol works as a manicurist in a London beauty salon where her clients are wealthy and middle aged. She is vague and clumsy at work and her colleagues merely assume that she is dreamy and lovesick. No one realises that her ethereal features mask a tragically twisted mind. She is both repulsed and fascinated by men, in particular her sister Helen's married boyfriend Michael. Carol lives with Helen and when she hears that she will have to spend time alone while Helen and Michael go on a holiday to Italy she begs her sister to stay. Alone in the apartment, Carol falls victim to her secret terrors, seeing every man who comes to her door as a potential assailant.
