Knife In The Water

Oscar Nominee 1964 - Best Foreign Language Film. Revered as one of Polanski's finest films, his directorial debut earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film in 1962. The original thriller sees a bored middle class Polish couple pick up a beatnik hitchhiker while on their way to go sailing. Unaware of the stranger's intentions, the couple invite him onto their boat. Their marriage appears to be loveless, and the young drifter does nothing to hide his attraction to Christine and his efforts to impress Andrej degenerate into volatile one-upmanship. Christine is intrigued by the attentions of the rebellious teenager but her attempts to keep the peace between the two men are unsuccessful and life altering.
